Our process provides a more gentle approach to traditional cremation. The scientific name for this process is Alkaline Hydrolysis, but most people refer to it as Aquamation or Water Cremation. It uses a combination of gentle water flow, temperature, and alkalinity to accelerate the breakdown of organic materials. Essentially, this is the same process that occurs when a body is laid to rest in the soil, but at a much faster rate. Aquamation uses 90% less energy than that of traditional cremation and produces no harmful emissions or pollutants to be released back into the environment. The process takes about 20 hours to complete, whereas traditional cremation takes only a few, but we stand by the philosophy of “good things take time”.
